Web design in Nanaimo, by someone who lives here

Island Web Design Studio is a Nanaimo studio. You talk to Konstantin, the founder who designs and codes your site, and if you would rather meet than do a video call, we can sit down at your shop or over coffee downtown. Hand-coded sites from CAD $790, a fixed written quote, and you own everything.

A Nanaimo studio, not a Nanaimo landing page

Plenty of agencies have a page called “web design Nanaimo” and an office somewhere else. We are actually here, and our first clients were Nanaimo businesses: P3 Mechanical & Electrical, an HVAC and plumbing company, the Yankovska School of Rhythmic Gymnastics, and UPGREAT Home Renovations. All three sites are live, so you can open them on your phone and judge the speed for yourself.

Being local matters less for the code than for the conversation. A plumber in Harewood gets calls from people standing in a wet basement, searching on a phone with one hand. A gymnastics school gets parents comparing class times on a laptop after dinner. Those two sites should not look or work the same, and ours do not.

We also work up and down the Island the same way, with businesses in Parksville and Qualicum Beach to the north and Ladysmith to the south.

Where Nanaimo customers search from

Google ranks local businesses partly by how close they are to the person searching, so the part of town you serve shapes how the site is structured, not only what it says.

Downtown and the Old City Quarter

Shops, restaurants and studios that live on walk-in traffic. Opening hours, a map pin that matches your Google listing, and a menu or price list that loads on a phone before someone walks past your door.

North Nanaimo and Departure Bay

Busy residential areas with a steady stream of home service searches. Trades here do better with service pages that name the neighbourhoods they really cover, so Google can connect the business with the searcher.

Harewood and the University District

Students, families and VIU staff. Tutors, fitness studios, rentals and food businesses near the university need schedules and booking that work without a login or a phone call.

Lantzville, Cedar, Gabriola and Nanoose Bay

Smaller communities where people often search for the business by name, or search for Nanaimo and add the community. A clear service area section helps you show up for both.

How people find a business in Nanaimo

Most local searches here happen on a phone, and many end in a call without the person ever opening a website: they tap the number in the Google Maps listing. So our sites are built to back up the Maps listing, not compete with it. Same business name, same phone, same address, plus schema.org markup that tells Google which listing the site belongs to. If your business does not appear in the map results at all, start with why a business is missing from Google Maps.

The rest of the traffic comes from people comparing options. They open three sites from the results, look at each for a few seconds, and call the one that answered their question fastest. A roofer whose first screen says “roof repairs in Nanaimo, Lantzville and Nanoose Bay” next to a phone number that dials on tap has a better shot at that comparison than one that opens with a slideshow.

Ferry traffic counts too. People arriving at Departure Bay or Duke Point look up food, rentals and services before they have left the terminal, so tourism businesses near the harbour should treat their mobile site as the front door.

“Did a fantastic job on my business website, great communication and a little back and forth we dialed the website in to perfection! He even customized my logo a bit more which made it better than my first iteration.”
Roham Pahlavan, PAHLAVAN General Contracting Inc.

Working with us in Nanaimo

The process is the same for every client. The difference here is that any step can happen face to face.

  1. Meet or call

A short call, or a meeting at your shop, your office or a café downtown. We look at your current site, your Google Business Profile and the questions customers ask you on the phone.

  2. Fixed quote in writing

One price before work starts, half to begin and half at launch. It only changes if you add something, and you see the new number first.

  3. Design and build

We design the key pages, you get two rounds of changes, then we hand-code the site in Next.js. Most small business sites take 1 to 3 weeks once the content is ready.

  4. Launch and local setup

Search Console, Google Analytics, the sitemap and structured data go live with the site. If your Google Business Profile needs work, we set it up for CAD $250.

  5. After launch

30 days of free fixes and a 12-month warranty. A monthly plan is optional, and the domain, code and content are yours.

What we build for Nanaimo businesses

Trades and home services

Click-to-call in the header, one page per service, the areas you cover, and a quote form that asks for photos. P3 Mechanical runs this setup with a monthly local SEO plan on top.

Schools, studios and clubs

Class schedules, age groups, registration and the photos parents want to see. The Yankovska School site is built around exactly that.

Renovation and construction

Galleries of real projects, described by neighbourhood and scope, so the work does the selling. UPGREAT Home Renovations is one example.

Shops, cafés and food

Hours, a menu or catalogue, a map and fast loading on mobile data. Online ordering or a full shop when it makes sense.

What a website costs in Nanaimo

Our prices are published and the same anywhere on the Island. A one-page site is CAD $790. A Starter site of 1 to 5 pages is CAD $970 to $2,000. A Business site with 6 to 12 pages, service and town pages and local SEO foundations is CAD $2,500 to $4,500. Online stores start at CAD $4,500. The full breakdown, with care plans and add-ons, is on the pricing page, and the reasoning behind the numbers is in what a website costs in Nanaimo in 2026.

Already have a site that looks dated or never brings in calls? A website redesign keeps what works (your domain, your rankings, your best content) and rebuilds the rest. Moving off Wix, Squarespace or WordPress with rankings kept starts at CAD $300 on top of the build. For trades, our page on websites for contractors goes into the details.
